Once upon a time, in a cozy little burrow under a willow tree, lived an Easter Bunny named Benny. Benny had the very important job of coloring eggs for Easter morning.

“This year,” Benny announced to his carrot stuffed animal, Mr. Crunchy, “I’m going to try something different!”
Benny hopped over to his egg-coloring station. Usually, he would carefully dip each egg into different colors: pink, blue, yellow, and purple. He’d add polka dots to some and stripes to others.
But today, Benny had a brilliant idea. “Why use lots of colors when green is clearly the best?” he said, wiggling his nose excitedly. “Green like grass! Green like lettuce! Green like… like… broccoli!” (Even though he secretly didn’t like broccoli very much.)

So Benny mixed a huge batch of bright green dye and plopped every single egg into it. “Plunk! Plunk! Plunk!” went the eggs.
“This will be egg-cellent!” Benny giggled at his own joke. “Get it, Mr. Crunchy? Egg-cellent!”
Mr. Crunchy, being a stuffed carrot, didn’t laugh, but Benny was sure he was smiling on the inside.
The next morning, Easter morning, Benny hopped all around the meadow, hiding his perfectly green eggs in the perfectly green grass.
“This spot is perfect!” he said, tucking an egg beside a clump of clover. “And this spot is perfect too!” he exclaimed, nestling another egg under a leafy bush.
Soon all the eggs were hidden, and Benny sat back to watch the children arrive for the big Easter egg hunt.
“Ready, set, GO!” called Mother Rabbit, and all the children raced into the meadow with their baskets.
But something strange happened. The children looked and looked, but no one found any eggs!
“I can’t find any!” cried a little lamb. “Me neither!” said a small fox. “Where are all the eggs?” asked a confused duckling.

Benny’s ears drooped. He couldn’t understand it. He’d hidden the eggs in plain sight! Well, sort of.
Then, a clever little hedgehog named Hazel stopped and scratched her spiky head. “Wait a minute,” she said, looking at the green grass all around. “Are the eggs… green?”

Benny nodded enthusiastically.
“Ah-ha!” said Hazel. “No wonder we can’t find them! They’re camouflaged!”
“Camo-what?” asked Benny, his nose twitching in confusion.
“Camouflaged. It means they blend in too well with their surroundings,” explained Hazel. “Your green eggs are hiding in green grass!”
“Oh no!” gasped Benny. “I didn’t think about that! I just thought green was egg-stra special!” He looked so sad that his whiskers almost touched the ground.
But Hazel had an idea. “Everyone, listen!” she called to the other children. “We need to feel through the grass with our paws, not just look with our eyes!”
And so the children began carefully feeling through the meadow. Soon, squeals of delight filled the air as they discovered the hidden green treasures.

“I found one!” “Me too!” “Look, I have three!”

Benny’s smile returned, bigger than ever.
After all the eggs were found, Mother Rabbit gathered everyone around. “Benny has taught us all an important lesson today,” she said gently.

“I have?” Benny asked, surprised.
“Yes,” Mother Rabbit smiled. “Sometimes when things are too similar, they’re hard to notice. That’s why it’s good to appreciate differences and variety.”
“And,” added Hazel with a giggle, “he taught us that when Plan A doesn’t work, try Plan B… or Plan C or D!”
Everyone laughed, including Benny.
That evening, as Benny hopped back to his burrow, he was already planning next year’s eggs. “Maybe rainbow colors,” he told Mr. Crunchy. “Or sparkly ones! Or eggs with funny faces!”
As he snuggled into bed, Benny yawned. “You know what though? I still think those green eggs were egg-sactly perfect in their own way.”
And somewhere in the meadow, a green egg that nobody found would soon hatch into a very surprised little chick who would wonder why on earth he was green!
The End
