Once upon a time, there was a little village. Not a village for people — but a village for vegetables! And there lived some friends: Carrot, Mr. Tomato, Cucumber the Long One, little Pea, and sleepy Potato Spud.
Come along, let’s see what they do all day!
Morning – Wake Up Time
The sun came up slowly over the village.
“Cock-a-doodle-doo!” sang the rooster.
Carrot opened her eyes. She stretched — “aaah!” — and gave a big yawn. “Haa-ha!”
“Good morning, sunshine!” she called. “Good morning, friends!”
And the whole village slowly woke up.

Washing Time
In the night, the dew came down. Teeny-tiny droplets — drip, drip, drip.
They landed on Carrot, on Mr. Tomato, on everyone.
And that’s how vegetables wash themselves!
Drip-drip on a cheek, drip-drip on a tummy.
Carrot is clean. Mr. Tomato is shiny. Everyone is washed and lovely.

Breakfast
Now it’s time for breakfast!
Vegetables don’t drink from a cup. Vegetables drink from the ground — with their roots.
Slurp, slurp, Carrot drinks her water.
And right away she grows a little bit taller. Pop!
“Yum,” she said happily. “That was good.”

Working in the Garden
After breakfast, everyone has a job to do.
Potato Spud digs deep into the ground. Dig, dig, dig.
Pea holds onto the stem. Hold on, hold on! “We’re a family!” call the little round peas.
Cucumber the Long One stretches up to the sun. Stretch… a little more… pop!
And they all sing together: “La-la-la, we’re growing!”

Lunch and Sunshine
The sun is warm. It’s nice and toasty.
The vegetables soak up the sun and slowly grow.
Mr. Tomato lies in the sun and — turns red!
From little and green, he becomes big and red. Pop, red!
“Look how handsome I am!” he laughs. “Ho-ho-ho!”

Afternoon Rain
Suddenly — plip! — a raindrop fell. And then another. Plip-plop, pitter-patter!
A little rain shower came along.
But the vegetables aren’t scared! The rain helps them grow.
Pitter-patter on Cucumber, pitter-patter on Pea.
“Hooray, we’re having a bath!” they all laugh. And they’re squeaky clean again.

Evening – Good Night
The sun is getting ready to sleep. Bye-bye, sunshine!
The vegetables are tired from a whole day of growing.
Carrot gave a yawn — “haa-ha!” — and closed her eyes.
“Good night, Mr. Tomato.”
“Good night, Cucumber.”
“Good night, Pea.”
“Good night, Spud.”
And up above the village, the little stars came out. Twinkle, twinkle.
The whole vegetable village fell fast asleep.
Good night.
