How Rosie Helps the Hedgehog

Rosie the squirrel walks through the forest.

Rustle, rustle.

Then she hears a tiny little voice.

Help… help…

Who is calling?

Under a bush, a small hedgehog is curled up. His prickles are caught on a branch and he cannot move.

Rosie the squirrel discovers a hedgehog caught beneath a leafy branch.

“Don’t worry, I will help you,” says Rosie.

Rosie reaches out and takes hold of him.

OUCH! PRICKLY!

She pulls her paws back fast. The hedgehog is covered in sharp little spikes.

Rosie tries again, very gently.

OUCH, OUCH! PRICKLY, PRICKLY!

That will not work.

Rosie stops and thinks for a moment. Then she gathers a big pile of soft leaves.

Rustle, rustle, rustle.

She wraps the leaves around her paws like little mittens. And slowly, ever so gently, she pushes the hedgehog.

Rosie the squirrel uses soft leaves to help a hedgehog caught under a branch.

Push… push…

The hedgehog slips free from the branch.

Hop!

“Thank you, Rosie!” the hedgehog cheers.

He curls himself into a ball and rolls happily home.

The rescued hedgehog rolls happily home while Rosie smiles nearby.

Roll, roll, roll.

Rosie smiles. She is glad she helped her friend.
