Nell is ready for bed. Tall Giraffe needs a little help too.
Nell sat on the soft blue quilt.
Mama sat close beside the bed.
Nell held Bunny in both hands.
"Night-night, Bunny," said Nell.
Nell put Bunny under the quilt.
Bunny was snug.
Nell picked up Little Duck.
"Night-night, Duck," said Nell.
Nell put Duck beside Bunny.
Duck was snug too.
Then Nell looked at Tall Giraffe.
Tall Giraffe stood by the pillow.
Nell patted the quilt.
"Come, Giraffe," said Nell.
Nell tried to tuck him in.
But Giraffe did not fit.
His long neck stayed up.
Nell pulled the quilt higher.
The quilt slipped down again.
Nell looked at Mama.
"Too tall," said Mama softly.
Mama smiled at Nell.
"We can make room."
Mama moved the small pillow down.
Nell patted the open place.
"Bend, bend," said Nell.
Mama helped Tall Giraffe bend gently.
Nell helped with one small hand.
Tall Giraffe lay down at last.
Nell pulled up the quilt.
"Snug, snug," said Nell.
Bunny was snug.
Duck was snug.
Tall Giraffe was snug too.
Mama made the room dim.
Nell touched Bunny.
Nell touched Duck.
Nell touched Giraffe.
"Night-night," whispered Nell.
Mama kissed Nell's head.
"Night-night, Nell," said Mama.
Nell closed her eyes.
All the soft toys stayed close.
The little bed was quiet.
