Once upon a soft, quiet night, a little bunny named Luna was getting ready for bed.
The moon was round and gentle.
The trees were still.
The flowers had closed their sleepy petals.
Luna climbed onto her bed and looked out the window.
Up in the dark blue sky, she saw many stars twinkling.
Twinkle, twinkle.
Blink, blink.
But one tiny star was not twinkling brightly.
It blinked very slowly.
Blink…
blink…
“Oh dear,” whispered Luna. “That little star looks sleepy.”
Luna opened her window just a little and called softly, “Hello, tiny star. Are you all right?”
The tiny star gave a small shimmer.
“I am sleepy,” said the star in a tiny, tinkly voice. “But I cannot find my soft cloud pillow.”
Luna’s ears perked up.
“A sleepy star needs a pillow,” she said. “I will help you.”
So Luna tiptoed outside into the quiet garden.
Step, step, step.
First, Luna came to the tall silver tree.
“Goodnight, tree,” whispered Luna. “Have you seen a soft cloud pillow?”
The tree gave a slow, sleepy rustle.
Rustle, rustle.
“I have not seen a cloud pillow,” said the tree, “but you may have one soft leaf.”
A little leaf floated down.
Swish.
“Thank you,” said Luna.
Next, Luna hopped to the sleepy flowers.
“Goodnight, flowers,” whispered Luna. “Have you seen a soft cloud pillow?”
The flowers gave tiny yawns.
Yawn, yawn.
“We have not seen a cloud pillow,” they said, “but you may have one soft petal.”
A pale pink petal fluttered into Luna’s paws.
“Thank you,” said Luna.
Then Luna saw a little dandelion, round and fluffy in the moonlight.
“Goodnight, dandelion,” whispered Luna. “Have you seen a soft cloud pillow?”
The dandelion nodded gently.
“I have not seen a cloud pillow,” said the dandelion, “but you may have some soft fluff.”
Puff, puff, puff.
The dandelion fluff floated like tiny clouds.
Luna smiled.
She placed the soft leaf, the soft petal, and the soft dandelion fluff together.
Pat, pat, pat.
Soon, she had made the tiniest, coziest cloud pillow.
Luna held it up to the sky.
“Here you are, sleepy star,” she whispered.
The tiny star floated down just a little and rested on the soft little pillow.
“Oh,” sighed the star. “It is just right.”
The star gave one happy twinkle.
Twinkle.
Then another.
Twinkle.
Then its light grew soft and calm.
“Goodnight, Luna,” whispered the star.
“Goodnight, tiny star,” whispered Luna.
Luna tiptoed back inside.
Step, step, step.
She climbed into bed and pulled up her blanket.
Outside, the moon smiled.
The trees rested.
The flowers slept.
And the tiny star snuggled into its cloud pillow.
Luna closed her eyes.
She felt warm.
She felt peaceful.
She felt sleepy.
And soon, Luna was dreaming sweet dreams under the quiet, twinkly sky.
Goodnight, Luna.
Goodnight, moon.
Goodnight, sleepy star.
