The Mice’s Halloween House

Milo, Pippa, and Nibbles outside their decorated oak-tree house for Halloween

In a tiny house under an old oak tree lived three little mice: Milo, Pippa, and Nibbles.

One chilly autumn morning, Pippa looked out of the window.

“Halloween is coming!” she squeaked.

“Our house needs to look spooky!” said Milo.

“And cozy!” added Nibbles.

So the three mice got to work.

First, they took a big sheet of white paper.

Snip, snip, snip!

They cut out little ghosts with round heads and wiggly arms.

Then they tied them together with a string.

“A ghost garland!” cheered Pippa.

They hung it above their tiny front door.

The little paper ghosts danced whenever the wind blew.

“Woo-oo-oo!” the mice giggled.

Next, they rolled three small pumpkins into the garden.

Milo carefully made a happy pumpkin face.

Pippa made a surprised pumpkin face.

And Nibbles made a pumpkin with two enormous teeth.

“That one looks like you!” laughed Milo.

Nibbles showed his tiny mouse teeth.

“It does!”

Then the mice painted black bats on pieces of cardboard.

They made big bats, little bats, and one very silly bat with crooked wings.

They hung them on the walls and windows.

Soon, their little house looked wonderfully spooky.

But something was still missing.

“I know!” said Nibbles. “Halloween needs something yummy!”

The mice mixed pumpkin, flour, cinnamon, milk, and a little honey in a bowl.

Stir, stir, stir!

They poured the mixture into a tiny baking dish.

Soon, a warm and sweet smell filled the whole house.

“Pumpkin cake!” cried Pippa.

That evening, the mice lit their pumpkin lanterns.

The ghost garland fluttered above the door.

The painted bats decorated the windows.

And in the middle of the table sat their warm pumpkin cake.

Milo, Pippa, and Nibbles snuggled together with three tiny slices.

“Our house is spooky,” said Milo.

“Our house is beautiful,” said Pippa.

Nibbles took a big bite of cake.

“And delicious!”

Outside, the autumn leaves danced in the wind.
