Milo stood by the classroom door and held his little backpack very tightly.
“I don’t want to stay here,” he whispered.
Then his eyes filled with tears.
“I want to go home!”
A kind teacher named Miss Rosie came over and knelt beside him.
“It’s okay to feel a little scared when something is new,” she said gently. “But you are safe here, Milo. And I think you might find something fun today.”
Milo wiped his eyes. Miss Rosie took his hand and walked with him to a boy who was playing nearby.
“This is Toby,” she said. “Toby, this is Milo. He is new today.”
Toby smiled. “Hi, Milo! Do you like football?”
Milo looked at the little ball beside him. “Yes… I do.”
“Come on!”

Soon, Milo and Toby were kicking the ball across the room.
Kick! Pass! Goal!
Milo forgot about his tears.

A little later, another boy named Finn waved to him.
“Milo! Come and catch some fish!”
There was a big water table filled with colorful toy fish. Milo and Finn took little fishing rods and tried to catch them.
“I got a blue one!” Milo laughed.
“And I got TWO!” Finn said.

After that, the boys built a long train track.
Choo-choo!
The little train went over a bridge, around the blocks, and through a tiny tunnel.

Then it was time to go outside. Milo and his new friends ran around the playground.
They chased each other. They went down the slide. They climbed, jumped, laughed, and played hide-and-seek.
Milo was having so much fun that the morning seemed to fly by.

Soon, Miss Rosie said, “Milo, someone is here to pick you up!”
Milo stopped. “Already?”
Miss Rosie smiled.

Milo looked around at Toby, Finn, the football, the toy fish, the train, and the playground.
This morning, preschool had seemed like a scary place. But now Milo smiled.
“I think I like preschool,” he said.
Then he waved to his new friends. “See you tomorrow!”

And on the way home, Milo already knew something important:
Sometimes new things can feel scary at first… but they can turn into wonderful adventures.

The End.
—No quiero quedarme aquí —susurró.
—¡Quiero irme a casa!

—¡Milo! ¡Ven a pescar!
—¡He pescado uno azul! —rio Milo.
—¡Y yo he pescado DOS! —dijo Finn.

Jugaron a perseguirse.

Fin.
